"Did You Know" Series: Bogdan Bogdanovic
Atlanta Hawks’ Bogdan Bogdanovic (or as we call him “Bogi”) is very serious about his practice routine. He is often one of the last ones still on the court because of that. This means that when I requested him for an interview after a shoot around, he was very limited on time as he couldn’t miss the team bus.
I quickly adapted, as you often must to get the interview. As he rushed to the bus, I was right beside him to ask him a few questions. Ultimately, I wanted to find out…what is something many people don’t know about him?
With a slight smile, he proclaimed “There’s a lot of stuff people don’t…” and then trailed off for a moment to think. “Probably, they don’t know I’m really good in video games, like strategy video games and chess. I’m good at chess.”
I know nothing about video games (or chess for that matter), so I had to ask him to clarify what he meant by “strategy video games.” He then went through a list that included World of Warcraft and DotA 2.
Bogi started playing video games so many years ago that he can’t even place the year he actually began. “I don’t even remember, that’s how old I am,” he joked while trying to recall at least the age range. He did know it was around the time he got his first PC, so he believed it to have been at least 20 years.
If you’re wondering who he plays against on the team, think no further than the Hawks’ starting big man. “I play FIFA against Clint (Capela), he’s pretty good. But I’m like second-best, for sure. There’s some players in the league that are good in FIFA but I’m like up there.”
“Dennis Schröder is nice. He’s really good at FIFA,” Bogi mentioned when I asked him who in the NBA is one of the better players he’s faced at playing the video game.
If you’re looking to square off against Bogi on the screen, good luck. He oftentimes prefers to remain anonymous versus announcing to the public when he’s on.
